How to treat your back at home

so rub the pain

In most people, lumbar pain is associated with sciatica, although the causes are quite varied.

This symptom is accompanied not only by the loss of paravertebral structures, but also by many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and urogenital system, as well as metabolic disorders and oncological processes.

Therefore, before using alternative methods, it is strongly recommended to consult a doctor and find out the cause of the pain.

In addition, acute back pain is not always stopped by the usual methods - pills or body lotions. Sometimes surgery or therapeutic blockade is needed.

Complex approach

If the back hurts in the lumbar region, the most common diagnosis is "osteochondrosis" or "intervertebral hernia. "The main condition for successful treatment is the elimination of the cause of pain. Otherwise, medication or physiotherapy will be helpless and the disease will become chronic.

Back and spine treatment begins with gentle treatment, which means rejecting all physical activity. Bed rest is recommended for severe pain. To speed up your recovery and avoid discomfort, doctors advise you to buy an orthopedic pillow and mattress.

This reduces the load on the spine, prevents compression of nerve endings and muscle cramps. If you can’t buy special equipment, it’s better to sleep on a medium-hard mattress and choose a medium-thickness pillow.

Medication prescribed by a doctor usually contains not only anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, but also vitamin complexes. During the rehabilitation period, physiotherapy, gym therapy and massage are performed. As an additional method, you can use folk remedies, which must be discussed with your doctor in advance. With a well-known diagnosis and specialist approval, home treatment of the spine will be much more effective.

Folk recipes for back pain

You can eliminate the pain with the usual mustard patches found in almost every home. Due to their local reflex effect, they irritate the skin and increase blood flow. As a result of the blood stroke, the metabolic processes in the tissues are accelerated, oxygen transport is improved, and pain and inflammation are reduced. Another important effect of the mustard patch is to stimulate the synthesis of adrenaline and noradrenaline, which has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system.

Recipe # 1. Add 50 ml of Furacillin and a teaspoon of liquid honey to the mustard patch water. You can use a reconstituted solution of Furacillin (available from a pharmacy) or dissolve 1 tablet in 50 ml of water. Dip the prepared mustard plaster into the solution for a few seconds, then remove and apply to the sore spot.

Hold the compress until a burning sensation appears, then remove and wipe the skin dry. Lubricate with cream or oil, cover with plastic wrap and wrap in a warm cloth.

Recipe # 2. Tassel leaf is another affordable home remedy for relieving back and low back pain. Rinse some fresh leaves, then stack them so that they touch each other on the green and purple sides. Dip this pile into boiling water, boil for 2-3 minutes, remove gently without disturbing each other, and cool. Apply to lower back, secure with bandage and warm scarf.

What to do if "typed" in the back

Men are thought to be more sensitive to sciatica because they do physical work or sports, lift and carry heavy loads, drive for long periods of time, and are often overweight. Therefore, they often complain that they have "grabbed their backs" or "wedged" the lumbar region.

Low back pain can catch up anywhere: at work, at the gym, or at home. In this case, first aid measures will help to:

  • find the most advantageous position in which the pain is least felt and remain in that position;
  • do not make sudden movements, it is advisable not to move at all;
  • are taking painkillers or anti-inflammatory medicines (Diclofenac, Ibuprofen);
  • apply anti-inflammatory ointment to the painful area;
  • if there is a wool elastic belt, tie it around the waist, secure the spine in a fixed position;
  • lie on your back, bend your knees, and place a pillow made of folded towels or blankets under it. In this situation, the lumbar muscles relax as much as possible.

If the recommendations described are followed, the pain will usually improve in about half an hour. If the onset of burning pain occurs after a severe spinal cord injury, be sure to consult a traumatologist.

Medical assistance is also required in the following cases:

  • the victim is over 60 years of age;
  • you have an oncological disease;
  • increased body temperature;
  • the seizure was preceded by long-term treatment with hormonal drugs;
  • low back pain for more than a month;
  • significantly decreased body weight despite lack of diet.

If you don’t have painkillers at home and don’t have the strength to make remedies according to folk recipes, you can try to numb your back with a burdock leaf. It does not need to be boiled, soaked or cooked with boiling water, but simply applied to the body with its shiny side. Secure with a bandage on top and wrap with a woolen cloth. Keep the compress for up to 12 hours.

The same simple recipe involves using valerian tincture if it is not found on burdock. It should be moistened with gauze or cotton cloth, which should then be placed on the lower back.

The next 2 recipes are a little harder to make: one requires black radish, the other turpentine and red clay.

Recipe # 1. Grate the radish and place on a cheese cloth. Apply to the back, cover with cellophane and insulate the affected area of the back. Hold until strong heat appears.

Recipe # 2. Dilute 1 kg of clay with water, add 3 tablespoons of turpentine. We get a paste that looks like a cake and is used for compresses.

Compressions, body lotions, rubbing: quickly and efficiently

The treatment of low back pain at home is primarily a therapeutic application using herbs, vegetables, mustard powder, honey and even pasta. They have all the properties needed to relieve unpleasant symptoms.

A warm compress can be made from the herbal scald, which requires black elderberry, chamomile, thyme and St. John's wort. The herbs should be taken in equal proportions, poured over boiling water and infused for 15-20 minutes. The procedure is best done at night: moisten the gauze in the infusion, fix it on the lower back, cover it with polyethylene and fix it.

Dissolve the mustard powder in creamy water. The resulting ointment is spread on the back and heated. Keep burning for up to 5 minutes.

The buttered yeast dough is spread on several layers of gauze wrapped around the waist and the compress is fixed with a bandage. The dough layer is about two inches. It is better to perform the procedure before going to bed and leave the test lotion overnight. The treatment process is 10 days.

Attention: any warm compress should not cause pain and discomfort, the desired effect is mild heat and tingling. If discomfort occurs, the application should be removed and the product should be washed with warm water.

It removes pain well when mixed with body oil and olive oil. Such an ointment is applied to the lower back and is warmed up. The duration of the procedure is 30 minutes.

horse chestnut for back pain

Horse chestnuts are found in many cities, and the fruits ripen in full in September. You can use fresh chestnuts for the treatment or buy a ready-made tincture at the pharmacy.

Horse chestnut is used for back or joint pain. This plant has a pronounced anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effect and is therefore widely used in the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system.

For sciatica, it is recommended to wear a belt or pants with pockets of horse chestnut in your pockets. The crushed fruits are mixed with camphor oil to make an ointment. To cure osteochondrosis or neuralgia, you can replace camphor oil with internal or melted fat. The effect is enhanced if the mixture is placed on a piece of black bread and spread on the affected area.

You will need the following recipe: a bottle of triple cologne, 2 vials of valerian and iodine, 5 pods of red hot pepper. Mix the ingredients in a dark jar, shake and stick for a day. At night, simply lubricate the lower back with tincture or pull a net like iodine. Wrap your back with a feather or woolen cloth from above.

Kerosene and beetroot cream relieve pain in a single day. Here's how to make it: grate the unpeeled beets, squeeze them and remove the juice. Mix the remaining cake with kerosene (1 tablespoon L). To prevent skin burns, apply the mixture first to the material and then to the back. Put a foil on top and tie a warm scarf.

Recipes with garlic

This vegetable is not in vain called the cure for 100 diseases. It contains many useful substances, the most valuable of which is allicin. Garlic is beneficial for both adults and children, essential for colds and decreased immunity. It was used in the Middle Ages to control plague and cholera.

Recent studies have shown that the presence of garlic in the human diet can even prevent the development of cancer by destroying cancer cells in the mouth and upper respiratory tract. Some scientists identify the power of garlic with chemotherapy.

If your waist hurts, you can make a garlic elixir or rub. The healing mixture for internal use is prepared by peeling and chopping the garlic head in a blender or grater. Do the same with the lemon without peeling and scalding with boiling water.

Pour the lemon and garlic cooked in one liter of warm water, let stand for two days, then strain and pour into a glass jar. Drink 2 tbsp. l 3 times a day after meals. The duration of treatment is one month. Store the prepared mixture in the refrigerator.

Lower back pain is relieved if a garlic-lemon compress is made within 30-35 days. The healing fluid intended for them is prepared a little differently. 2 heads of garlic should be pressed or otherwise chopped, mixed with 1 liter of water and kept in a dark place for a day. The filtered scald is then mixed with the juice of two lemons. In this recipe, lemon can be replaced with lime.

Garlic-lemon tincture is stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. To make a compress, a gauze or cotton cloth is moistened in the tincture, which is placed on its back under polyethylene. The duration of the procedure is 20-30 minutes.

For rubbing and heating, the following remedy is recommended: the pressed garlic is combined with melted lard in a 1: 2 ratio. Any fat is suitable - beef, pork, lamb, you can also take goose or internal fat. Store the mixture in a glass jar with the lid tightly closed in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.

Before use, the product is warmed up and rubbed on the affected area 2-4 times a day, it is better to wrap the back with a warm or woolen cloth after the treatment.

Horseradish recipes

Treatment with folk remedies at home involves the use of horseradish. It is used to make alcoholic tinctures, ointments, compresses, and body lotions, to which the leaves or roots of the plant are taken.

Recipe # 1. Put a few horseradish leaves in a glass jar and pour 0, 5 liters of vodka. Insist for two days. The procedure consists of kneading wet leaves in a sore spot. The same tincture can be made from the root, which requires 8-10 small roots filled with vodka. The exposure time is longer here - at least two weeks. Rub the lower back with the reconstituted solution.

All medicinal properties are retained in the roots of horseradish, even when ground or grated in a blender: the therapeutic effect is maintained for three days.

Recipe # 2. Squeeze the horseradish crushed or grated in a meat grinder, mix the resulting juice with olive oil in a 2: 1 ratio. Rub the spasmodic muscles of the lower back in a circular motion.

Recipe # 3. Horseradish prepared as in the previous recipe, mixed with sour cream (2 tablespoons), spread on the back, covered with foil and a warm scarf. Apply compression for 30-40 minutes, wash off the product, wipe the skin and wrap the lower back with a warm cloth. The duration of the treatment is 3 weeks, the procedure is performed 2-3 times a day. You can buy honey instead of sour cream.

Recipe # 4. Pull the horseradish roots and leaves through a meat grinder and place the resulting "minced meat" in a linen bag. It is more convenient to perform the procedure together as it will be difficult to perform it on your own. Put a bag of horseradish on the lower back and iron with a preheated iron for at least three minutes. Then cover the compress from the top with a warm scarf and lie down for 15-20 minutes. Then remove the bag. A bag of horseradish leaves can be used more than once.

Recipe # 5. Grated horseradish root and potatoes (one each), 1 tbsp. mix l honey and put on the lumbar region 1 cm layer, cover with polyethylene and a warm scarf. You need to last at least half an hour to be effective. Sessions can be done daily until the pain goes away.

Treatment according to folk recipes is not an alternative, but an additional method that has many advantages. Because natural ingredients are used, side effects are minimal. It also rules out addiction, which is not the case with some painkillers.

However, it should be borne in mind that serious illness requires mandatory medication. Practicing treatment at home can save time or speed up the pathological process. Therefore, if lumbar pain occurs, a specialist should be consulted if the general condition worsens. The attending physician can not only approve but also give advice from the piggy bank of folk recipes. To be healthy!
